When I received Sondra Gray's book "According to Punkin" in the mail, I was immediately struck by the cover. Punkin, the narrating cat of this charming book, is very photogenic (but, after reading this book, I suspect she knows this.)
Ms. Gray and her husband are truckers who discover a malnourished and filthy kitten at one of the loading docks. The Grays add Punkin to their family, and Punkin tells the story of being a truck driving cat. The story is, at times hilarious, but it is also poignant because Punkin realizes the Grays have given her a new life and is very grateful for the opportunity.
The ins and outs of the trucking industry are fascinating. Punkin gives the reader a cat's eye view of all that is involved with carrying freight across the country.
The book itself is short~ less than 100 pages. It is a quick read which makes it appealing to people of all ages. Children will enjoy being read this story, and anyone who has adopted an animal or given an animal a second chance will be nodding their head in agreement with the things Punkin says and observes.

How would it feel to be abducted by a total stranger and taken to places you had never been, especially if you were a starving, abused kitten? That's what happened to Punkin when the author Sondra Gray and her husband, Walter, found her on a loading dock just before what would have been the ultimate end of her dreary life and turned her into a trucker.According to Punkin is an enchanting book for the young and the young at heart in which Punkin "tells" the story of her life on a big rig.It is all based on actual occurrences and Sondra's perception of Punkin's attitudes and actions. It includes some informative details of trucking and also of the care and respect of pets.
