Amphetamine King Review

I'm a big fan of true crime and of biographes/autobiographies. In Ampetamine king we get the life's story of a man who made his living as a meth cook. He shares a slice of life most of us will never know and likely wouldn't want to. I wouldn't want to walk in his shoes and I thank him for showing me a glimpse of what that would have been.
He could have used a ghost writer. It seemed like some of the impact of his story was dulled by the awkwardness of a 'first attempt' at writing a book. If you can get past that you may enjoy it. I did.

In his book, Gonzales provides snapshots of true-life accounts to eloquently describe the world in which he lived - from the humble beginnings of his childhood, to his life as a Drug Kingpin, to his transformation in State Prison. He goes into detail of how he perfected the manufacturing and distribution of amphetamines during the mid to late 1980's. His escapades include run-ins with infamous drug lords and mad men of various underground organizations. And of course, he discusses the key people involved in helping him rise from a Latino Texan minion to a convicted Drug Kingpin.

Even if you are a seasoned RVer or just starting, this handbook has everything you need to know about your RV. I bought the book mainly to learn about winterizing our RV but found after reading that there were so many other things I could do myself, which meant saving money! Instead of paying the RV dealership to do simple things, I can now do them myself and save the money to do more traveling! Every RVer needs this!

The Winds of Sonoma Review

The Winds of Sonoma
Average Reviews:

I'll be honest; I've never read a romance novel in my entire life. But I heard some good things about a new novel,The Winds of Sonoma, by author Nikki Arana, and thought I'd check it out. And I have to say, I wasn't disappointed in the least. The detailed characterizations and the smooth writing style were quite impressive for a first novel. Angelica Amante, a privileged young lawyer on the rise, finds her match in Antonio Perez, a dirt-poor Mexican immigrant working at her parent's ranch. It's a class-act story about class differences, and how true love can overcome any barrier - even prejudice. A spark of romance runs through a satisfying and very substantial story. Nikki Arana makes the unconventional possible, and the impossible, attainable. I truly look forward to reading the next novel by this talented new author.

The Last Jazz Band Review

Charles Boeckman has done a remarkable job of capturing the humor and pathos in the life and times of professional jazz musicians, having been one himself for more than half a century. A terrific read from first page to last. Highly recommended.

You've come to the right place to hear about a delightful, insightful novel involving the hot jazz of traditional New Orleans, when carving contests focused on musical instruments and not on knives. It was the mid-1940's, right after WWII. It features a group of zany musicians who can't let go of the beat, the rhythm, and the soul-stirring creativity oftwo-beat New Orleans Dixieland jazz.Progressive bebop, with its cool chord alterations, is the popular music of the day.But these vets fresh back from the war aren't giving up their hot-licks music that makes their spirits soar. Broke but determined, they get involved in adventures and laugh-out-loud mis-adventures that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Oh, yeah, and there's that love story involving Jackie Haynes, the beautiful daughter of a Texas, oil rich millionaire....

Twilight Eyes Review

Twilight Eyes
Average Reviews:

Carl Stanfeuss was born with Twilight Eyes, a color his grandmother said foretold of psychic abilities. After murdering his uncle Denton at the tender age of seventeen, Carl flees Oregon, shedding his name to become Slim MacKenzie, and join up with the Sombra Brothers Carnival. Of course, it wasn't bad that he murdered his uncle ... because his uncle was one of Them. The goblins.
From his psychic abilities, Slim can see the piggish, doggish faces of the goblins hiding underneath the façade of normal humans. They live off the pain and suffering of others, gathering with glee at fires, accidents, shootings, and disasters.
Once with Sombra Brothers, Slim goes to work for concessionaire Rya Raines running the High-Striker, and falls in love with the icy beauty. Among the others he meets is enigmatic freak Joel Tuck (the most compelling character in the book), and after discovering both Joel and Rya can see the "goblins" also, they set a plan in motion to infiltrate one of the horrid monster's nests in the town of Yontsdown. Unsure if they can actually rid the world of the beasts, Slim and Rya plan to extract vengeance from them for the death of Jelly Jordan, one of their friends.
The book has an explosive culmination that won't leave you disappointed. The "goblins" are all too easy to imagine from Koontz's descriptions, and the depictions of carnival life well fleshed out without being overdone. Joel Tuck is my favorite character, Koontz describing the freak's appearance as "God having a bad day" or, worse, "fun with molding flesh".
Koontz doesn't usually write in first person, which makes this a unique novel among all the others he's done. Its also an earlier novel of his, written before he developed a 'Stephen King' predilection for 'verbal diarrhea', overwriting his stories to the point where prose overcame the actual story. 'Twilight Eyes' is an adventuresome novel with a unique storyline and well written enough to keep you up all night long. I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Milo Saint ties together the relevants of experience that a big city cop (Memphis) has into a small rural town mystery that is very capitivating through out the entire book. The book is a very entertaining journey through the life as a police officer who is trying to hold together a marriage, experience his badge being taken away and help out a rural sheriff resolve a set of mysterious murders. Scenes get tantalizing as violence and tension finally conclude in an interest game of cat and mouse with the closure of the case. This book is a very good read and should be considered by anyone that is looking for something a little different.

The Small House Book Review

The Small House Book
Average Reviews:

For those who have seen Jay's houses on Yahoo! or otherwise and want more information, you might consider this book. I said "might." Jay goes through his history of living in small homes, and then goes on a bender about why small homes are preferable to large ones, why people who design large homes and large neighborhoods are poo-poo heads, calls a few architects pretentious and arrogant, then goes on to talk mostly about how to go about designing these homes in architectural terms.
There is useful information, such as how to legally build and live in one of these homes in your area, though the topic isn't exhausted by any means. He also discusses the general building process, but if anything his youtube videos or his website are more detailed.
It's just...Mr. Shafer is preaching to the choir. By the time you've bought a $36 book, you've got your own ideas about why you should build a tiny house. What you want to know is the nuts and bolts. What kind of solar and batteries to buy and how to manage them; how to plumb the house; how to downsize your lifestyle (what to get rid of, what to keep and what to get); things of that nature that just aren't present in a real way. Jay is writing for the home designer, not the homeowner. So if you buy his plans, he's writing a book that's mostly intended for himself.

Rush Home Road: A Novel Review

Rush Home Road: A Novel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This novel is a page turner. I simply could not put it down, and read it all in one day. The story of an old lady with many stories to her life and a little girl with terrible stories of her own. You will want only the best for Addy and Sharla- and burn with the need for justice when the best doesn't always happen. Lori Lansens is a wonderful story teller, I found myself compelled to keep going to find out what would happen next, and sad when I awoke this morning to realize that I had already finished the book and the story was over. It is written in a rather spare style, which makes the events even more poignant. It is non-sentimental, and Addy Shadd is one of the best heroines I had recently read. Five stars is the least award I would give this wonderful book.

Sugar Daddy Review

Sugar Daddy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When awkward teenager Liberty Jones meets self-assured, loner Hardy Cates her life is changed forever. Liberty and her mother have just moved to a trailer home in Welcome, Texas. Hardy lives in the same trailer park with his mother and three siblings. Both the Cates the Jones families don't have much in the way of money, but their ties to their family make their lives complete. Liberty's mother works hard to support her daughter on her own, and when she becomes pregnant, Liberty steps in to help shoulder the extra burden. Likewise, Hardy also comes from a single parent home (his father is in prison) and he works hard outside the home to provide extra income for his family.
Liberty is going through puberty when she first meets Hardy and she falls for him hard. He is her constant advocate, helping her with tests, teaching her to play basketball, helping her see her own inner and outer beauty. But Hardy wants nothing more than to one day leave the sheltered trailer park life behind him and make something of his life. He is determined to not wind up like his father and he knows that falling in love with Liberty will only make it harder for him to go. To both of their dismay, he refuses to get involved with her and he walks away from Welcome and Liberty without turning back. Shortly after, Liberty loses her mother in an accident and is left to raise her two-year-old sister alone.
Forced to act as a single mother to her sister Carrington, Liberty makes sacrifice after sacrifice to ensure they are both fed, healthy, and happy. She sets out on a career path as a hair stylist and moves with Carrington to Houston to work at a prestigious salon. Once there, she meets Churchill Travis, a successful businessman who the other stylists tell her would make a perfect "sugar daddy." Liberty has never considered such an arrangement, but when Churchill takes a personal interest in her and offers her a live-in position as his assistant, she lets herself be swayed for the sake of her sister. Living with Churchill will give Carrington opportunities Liberty could never afford on her own. Soon Liberty has found love, happiness, and contentment in the Travis home and things are going well. But when Hardy steps back into her life after nearly 10 years, she has to decide if she's willing to sacrifice the happiness she's found for the future she'd always dreamed of.
I was skeptical when I found out Lisa Kleypas, one of the leading authors of historical romances, was going to be writing a contemporary novel. I mean, her historicals are so good--why ruin a good thing? Well, I'm here to admit that I was wrong. I forgive her for going the route of contemporary, and if they're all going to be this good, I say keep at it. Sugar Daddy was "unputdownable." I read it in six hours and stayed up until 3 in the morning to do so (and I have to go to work in the morning). But there was simply no other choice. I became absorbed in the characters, in the story, in the outcome and I just had to know how things were going to work out. Liberty Jones is a well-drawn character who develops from a shy, awkward teenager into a self-assured, confident guardian to her sister. She puts herself second to ensure that Carrington is well cared for and even sacrifices her own love life for the good of her family. When she finally finds someone to love, I was so happy for her, but then Hardy stepped back into her life and I had to wonder if she'd made the right choice. Hardy Cates was the stereotypical first love, but more than that he helped Liberty find her own womanhood. When she felt awkward and uncomfortable he put her at ease, and when she went through hard times, he picked her up. I wanted things to work for them, but at the same time it took Liberty so long to move on that I almost resented the easy way in which he walked back into her life. I've read enough romances that I can usually guess how they'll end (happily, of course), but Sugar Daddy's ending was a pleasant surprise for me. This story ranged from laugh out loud funny (the emu story) to heartwrenchingly romantic, and every emotion in between. Pick up Sugar Baby when you're in the mood for a stellar contemporary romance that will keep you on your toes, but make sure you have a few hours to spare because you won't want to put it down.

According to Punkin Review

When I received Sondra Gray's book "According to Punkin" in the mail, I was immediately struck by the cover. Punkin, the narrating cat of this charming book, is very photogenic (but, after reading this book, I suspect she knows this.)
Ms. Gray and her husband are truckers who discover a malnourished and filthy kitten at one of the loading docks. The Grays add Punkin to their family, and Punkin tells the story of being a truck driving cat. The story is, at times hilarious, but it is also poignant because Punkin realizes the Grays have given her a new life and is very grateful for the opportunity.
The ins and outs of the trucking industry are fascinating. Punkin gives the reader a cat's eye view of all that is involved with carrying freight across the country.
The book itself is short~ less than 100 pages. It is a quick read which makes it appealing to people of all ages. Children will enjoy being read this story, and anyone who has adopted an animal or given an animal a second chance will be nodding their head in agreement with the things Punkin says and observes.

How would it feel to be abducted by a total stranger and taken to places you had never been, especially if you were a starving, abused kitten? That's what happened to Punkin when the author Sondra Gray and her husband, Walter, found her on a loading dock just before what would have been the ultimate end of her dreary life and turned her into a trucker.According to Punkin is an enchanting book for the young and the young at heart in which Punkin "tells" the story of her life on a big rig.It is all based on actual occurrences and Sondra's perception of Punkin's attitudes and actions. It includes some informative details of trucking and also of the care and respect of pets.

Willamette Valley Railways (Images of Rail: Oregon) Review

Willamette Valley Railways (Images of Rail: Oregon)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Willamette Valley Railways is one of the more than 4,000 local history titles published by Arcadia Publishing, and part of Arcadia's "Images of Rail" series. However, this 2008 publication has one key word missing from its title: "Electric." The subject of the book is Willamette Valley Electric Railways, and provides history and illustration of the area's interurban and street railways, but does not deal with steam railroads.
The Willamette Valley is Oregon most populous region, extending 120 miles south from Portland through Salem, Albany, Corvallis and Eugene. The book is divided into eight chapters: Portland Area Interurbans (1891-1958), Oregon Electric Railway (1908-1933), United Railways (1911-1923), SP Red Electrics (1914-1929), Willamette Valley Southern (1915-1933), Salem Street Railways (1889-1927), Albany Street Railways (1889-1918) and Eugene Street Railways (1891-1927).
Portland Street Railways, the Oregon Electric Railway and the SP Red Electrics have been covered in other books, but this volume collects the basic company histories, photos, maps, timetables and vintage advertising in one handy reference. Some of the photos have been often published, but many obtained from museum and local library collections will be new to most readers. The book consists mostly of photos and captions, with just one page of historical text per chapter. The dates included with each chapter title refer solely to the years of passenger operation. In most cases this conforms to the company's history, but in the case of the Oregon Electric Railway, electric freight operation continued another dozen years into 1945 and the corporate identity lasted past the Burlington Northern merger, Oregon Electric being a subsidiary of the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway.

Willamette Valley Railways tells the story of the electric interurban railways that ran through Oregon's Willamette Valley and of the streetcars that operated in the towns they served. Long before modern light rail vehicles, electric trains were providing Portland and the Willamette Valley with reliable, elegant transportation that was second to none. Between 1908 and 1915, two large systems, the Oregon Electric Railway and the Southern Pacific Red Electrics, joined smaller competitors constructing railways throughout the region. Portland became the hub of an impressive interurban network in a frenzy of electric railway building. Yet all too soon, this brief but glorious interurban era was over. Highway improvement and the growth of automobile ownership made electric passenger trains unprofitable in the sparsely populated valley. By the early 1930s, the company that had launched the nation's first true interurban was the only one still offering passenger service here.

THE HUNT is expertly written, filled with beautifully descriptive passages. It now lives in my mind. I know these people. They are not just characters on a page; they are fleshed out, real just like you and me. It is not the usual 'vampire' story. Linell Jeppsen has given us a story of new friends, people you would like to know. (And some that you have to hate.) Primarily, you will meet Brian and his wife, Holly, Roger, a forest ranger and his friend Harley who is a spirit walker and of course exquisitely, handsome Raphael, a modern day vampire. As you learn of their lives you find that they will have something in common. I laughed, loved, cheered, hated and cried. Only an expert story teller can surface so much emotion in a reader. I did not want the book to end and I cried for my friends that have gone on without me. I hope Ms. Jeppsen writes another novel about the people in THE HUNT because to me they still live, somewhere.

It is amazing to me that after all this time Judy was able to tell her

these otters, while undergoing a multitude of problems along the way.
Judy and Turk are an exceptional couple who were only married a short time
