I began Cracker Ingenuity with high expectations after reading and enjoying P. T. Elliot's last book, 100 Proof. I was not to be disappointed. Cracker Ingenuity is hysterical. The content is totally true blue redneck America with an eye for appreciation of this side of our culture rather than condescension. Many of the "ingenuities" had me actually laughing in my seat as I read and the illustrations seem to fit the authors' ideas perfectly. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a bit of insight into a part of the U.S. that, while somewhat rough around the edges, is likely in all of us.

Hunter's collection of memories are perfect gems. Each is a complete story that tells us about a childhood incident. It is a warm retelling of childhood adventures and misadventures. His honesty and humor shine through the entire book making it a pleasure to read and a great break from a hectic day. It doesnt make me long for those long lost days, but Hunter's book makes me glad he lived them and is willing to share with us.

Bring Your Own Poison (A Trailer Park Mystery #4) Review

Bring Your Own Poison (A Trailer Park Mystery #4)
Average Reviews:

This series continues to get better and better as characters develop further and relationships grow. Wanda Nell Culpepper is a hardworking mother of three who occasionally happens upon a murder. In this case, it takes place at a party at the Kountry Kitchen, where she works. The author does a very credible job of having Wanda Nell get involved in trying to figure out the murderer but without doing anything stupid. What I found more interesting than the murder plot, though, was Wanda Nell's interactions with her family and her boyfriend, Jack. These are all extremely likable characters, who are three-dimensional and who care about each other a great deal. Even Wanda Nell's ex mother-in-law is thawing out towards her, and the older woman's conversations with her cousin are a riot. This is a light, but well-written series with sensitivity and heart. I highly recommend it.

A co-worker of mine strongly recommended "White Trash Etiquette" on a recent business trip, and was kind enough to let me borrow his copy. I read it cover-to-cover in my hotel room, and spent a good chunk of time chuckling at Dr. Verne's musings on life. This is a very, very funny book. It's quite original -- I've seen nothing like it. Dr. Verne shares his wisdom on all sorts of funny issues ranging from scams to sports to love. Dr. Verne's take on life is downright hilarious. This is a great book for a cover-to-cover read, or for someone who just has bits of time and wants to have a quick laugh. This book will definitely put a smile on your face.

Trailer Park Zombies Review

Trailer Park Zombies
Average Reviews:

Have you ever felt like you were trapped in a B-Movie? That is what the main characters of Trailer Park Zombie's felt like throughout this creepy little fun romp. The story revolves around three high school friends and one really bad weekend they are having in their trailer park. The story is told from the perspective of Duke (leader, birthday boy and possibly something more) and lets us into his world and what it was like before and after the undead walked into it. With zombie hordes infiltrating their homes and reeking havoc, the three friends have to protect themselves and their neighbors from becoming a zombie buffet. Love, epic battles, a hero, a mystery - what else could you want? Plus, it keeps you guessing until the end. TPZ is a funny, gory, easy read! It has all the best aspects of those B-Movies we all love! I loved it so much I read it twice :)

The Red Trailer Mystery (Trixie Belden #2) Review

The Red Trailer Mystery (Trixie Belden #2)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good news is that Jim Frayne has indeed inherited money from his great uncle and will have a new guardian appointed. The bad news is that he left Sleepyside before he could find out. So Trixie, Honey, and her governess, Miss Trask, set out in the Wheeler's trailer to find him. The first night out, they stop next to a mysterious red trailer. The family stays inside with the curtains closed. When they arrive in upstate New York, they learn that trailer thieves are operating in the area. Will Trixie and Honey be able to find Jim before he leaves New York for good? What is going on in that mysterious trailer? And have the girls stumbled on the thieves' hide out?
This book picks up minutes after the first book in the series ended. This is unusual in kid's books, and I rather enjoyed it. There's enough of a recap that anyone new to the story will feel right at home, although it's obviously best to read book 1 first.
The first time I read the story, I knew the ultimate outcome of their search for Jim. However, the sub-plots kept me interested the whole way through. Trixie and Honey are more themselves then in the last book. And, like the last book, so much happens that it's hard to put the book down. This book also contains one of my all time favorite scenes from the series. I always laugh when Trixie and Honey are trapped in the loft by Al. Honey especially is funny while being perfectly in character.
Julie Campbell took her time setting up the characters and events of the series, so these first books are really needed to fully enjoy what follows. But that's no trouble since they are so much fun to read. I've been reading them for years, and I don't plan to stop in the near future.

Diners, Bowling Alleys, and Trailer Parks: Chasing the American Dream in Postwar Consumer Culture Review

Diners, Bowling Alleys, and Trailer Parks: Chasing the American Dream in Postwar Consumer Culture
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is essentially a book of social history, although it brings together the disciplines of economic history, gender studies, architecture, and popular culture. Hurley discusses how diners, bowling alleys, and trailer parks reflected the social values of the 1950s and 1960s. The chapters on the three building types go into excruciating detail; for example, every nuance of diner design and operation is discussed and scrutinized for meaning. The book would have been improved if the author had covered more building types in the same number of pages.
Hurley's overriding theme is laudable: On the outskirts of most towns, there is a region that constituted that community's "commercial strip" during the 1950s and 1960s, before America discovered fast food, shopping malls, and big-box stores. Most of us drive through these past-their-prime commercial strips every day, seeing nothing but obsolete buildings. Hurley points out that these obsolete commercial strips are the equivalent of archeological sites, speaking volumes about how family values have evolved during the past half-century.

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park BBQin' Cookbook Review

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park BBQin' Cookbook
Average Reviews:

I loved her first two books even though I'm not one for cooking so to speak, but I laughed the entire time I read them. And then when I saw this one online, I thought there was no way she could top herself. Well, I was wrong, and she has done it again. I took this with us on our family vacation across country, and while I drove, my wife read the book to us. There were a few times we actually had to pull the car over! Plus we used several of the tips and a lot of the recipes that Ruby Ann has in this book, and they were fantastic! I love the sauces. Since Ruby Ann and her neighbors will eat any type of BBQ, this book has a great mix of the tomato based sauces as well as the Eastern non-tomato based ones. And the recipes are so easy to make that I was even cooking a little this summer. What she does with meat should be illegal it is so good. Plus she also fills you in on what has been going on with the people of the High Chaparral Trailer Park since her last cookbook (the holiday one), which makes her series a sort of an All My Children meets Green Acres meets COPS meets the Food Network. I have to give this book two BBQ sauce stained thumbs up! Thanks you Ruby ann Boxcar.

Trailer Trashed: My Dubious Efforts Toward Upward Mobility
Average Reviews:

Hollis has wacky friends, a fascinating life, and wild and embarassing stories that she fortunately does not mind sharing. Her writing style and family stories remind me some of the Sedaris clan and a little of Terry Ryan, the woman who wrote The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio. I enjoy her musings about Grant/Lary/Daniel, faking her way through German translations, hell-fire cats, waiting for the neighborhood prostitute to claim her discarded go-go boots, or spilling the dirt on her sister who owns a bar in Nicaragua. Also, if you get the chance, go see Hollis speak in person - her quick wit will have you guffawing. I saw her with a standing room only crowd and she had 'em belly laughing. (full disclosure: I know and like Hollis. But she's funny, I'm telling you!).

Punk Rock and Trailer Parks Review

Punk Rock and Trailer Parks
Average Reviews:

This graphic novel takes place in Akron in 1979 and 1980. The lead character is Otto, a dorky eccentric teen who calls himself "The Baron". He gets involved in the punk rock scene and manages to become a hero to local punks. Several real life punk legends appear in the comic, as they perform at the club Otto works at and have misadventures with him. This is a hilarious and at time poignant book that really captures the feel of what punk was like at the time.

Punk Rock & Trailer Parks conjures up the oppressive insanity of growing up in a small town, the day-to-day weirdness of the trailer parks tucked away therein, the magic allure of sex and the necessary comforts of friendship, the mystical power of the counter-culture to turn outcasts into heroes and, most of all, the transcendent power of music, specifically the punk rock of the late 1970's which redefined, transported, and ultimately, perhaps, disappointed a generation.

There are little words to describe the rarity of a book like this. It's not your "typical" story of someone's life. Actual reader feedback:

"This book was a real good read. It was quite explicit, very in depth on his experiences. I found myself cheering for him while his cousin attempts eating him. I found myself laughing at sexual experiences.....been there done that ;) I really enjoyed this book and if you like to stick your nose into the lives of others you will enjoy this book too. "

" I DIE!! I love how he desribes getting drunker and drunker and then convincing a serviceman to come out of the closet. I had no idea alcohol could do such a thing! The way he describes this intimate rendevouz will have you pee your pants and kill over with laughter! "

"If I could sum this book into a single word, it would be "wow." The book is a short and easy read, separated into chapters that correspond to different diary entries. Entries range from ghost stories to sordid encounters with married servicemen, and everything in between. Some of the material is explicit to say the least, so you probably won't be reading this as a bedtime story to your kids. I'm not a fan of reading erotica, but Gibson found a way to make the stories funny and entertaining. Be prepared, once you start reading this book, you won't want to put it down until the end. In short, Trailer Park Confessions is a shocking, tell-all of the life of an anonymous writer that will leave you laughing and wanting more. If heroin were a book, this would be it."

"As a gay man, this book is just my style! I didn't care too much for the chapters that included stories about inbred family members so I skipped them and went straight for the gay military sex chapters. This guy certainly has an imagination! It leaves me to wonder if this book is really fiction...... just the same, military wives better watch out because he goes in GRAPHIC detail on having sex with married military men!"

"Simply disgusting. I can't believe putrid creatures like yourself even exist on this planet. This book deserves to be cast in the flames of hell."

I was pleased with Sondi Miller's release on creating book trailers, although I didn't read anything I haven't already learned. But for the newbie, her book does break down the basics of great free programs such as Window's Movie Maker, that will allow you to build a simplistic book trailer yourself without spending hundreds of dollars. I think all authors should jump into making book trailers and "Recipe for a Book Trailer" would be a nice starting point.

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Guide To Livin' Real Good Review

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Guide To Livin' Real Good

I made the mistake of buying one book as a gift. I'd heard how good Ruby Ann's books are, and I have a pal that is a big Martha Stewart fan, so I ordered this book for her. When it arrived I started to wrap it up, but paused to glance at it. The pictures caught my eye and after just one page I was hooked. Not only didn't I wrap the book, I took it to my bedroom to keep for myself on the nightstand. I first tried to read it as fast as I could before our gift exchange, but with each page my feeling of personal possession grew stronger. I ended up having to buy a second copy to give to my pal, and additional copies to give to my other friends as well. The lesson here is that if you plan on giving "Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Guide to Livin' Real Good" as a gift, don't open it up, or just pick up two copies, one for the gift and one for you. I've already told all my friends to get me her other books this year. Now if they just come through. Ruby Ann Boxcar is 100% fall-out-of-the-bed-with-laughter funny regardless if you live in a trailer or not.

The Complete Guide to Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailer (Howell reference books) Review

The Complete Guide to Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailer (Howell reference books)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the world of horses everyone has an opinion. After deciding to buy a trailer I wanted to do a little research. This book is full of incredible detail about all the possible mishaps your horse could get into and the various design flaws that most trailers have to contribute to those mishaps. It gives detailed explanations of each part of the trailer and is full of opinions about the best design of trailers. The authors do not cite any specific manufacturers but after reading this book I had completely changed my mind about what I wanted. The problem is so much of the information was so scary that I designed my perfect trailer around it, only to learn it would cost me almost $10,000.00 (for a 2-horse). The book is incredibly detailed, well written in layman's terms and has good illustrations and photographs. I learned a lot more about a horse trailer than I ever thought I needed to. It gives you a lot to think about. Mostly I thought about never trailering my horse in someone elses's trailer again.

Trailers are a fact of life in the horse world. Sooner or later, everyone who owns a horse will have to deal with a horse trailer in order to haul to shows, races, hunts, and perhaps even to veterinary clinics. Up to now, when horse owners wanted information on trailers they had to rely on magazine articles or word-of-mouth recommendations. Not anymore. The Complete Guide to Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailer is the first and only book for both owners and buyers of horse trailers. It's a resource that gives prospective buyers, faced with hundreds of models to choose from, the means to make the right choice. It's a manual that gives current owners information on maintaining and caring for their trailers. Foremost, they will learn from lifelong horsewoman Neva Scheve and Thomas G. Scheve, both respected industry insiders, that the safety and comfort of the horse should always be the primary concern. This authoritative book, with more than 175 illustrations, addresses a number of important topics, including how to:* Determine whether to buy a new or a used trailer.* Ask the right questions of the dealer or owner.* Weigh the options and select the best model for your needs.* Evaluate tow vehicles and hitches.* Master pre-trip preparations.* Care for your current trailer.* Load, drive, and use a trailer safely.* Deal with typical exterior, interior, electrical and mechanical problems.* Assess the work of repairmen if the job is more than you can handle."Complete" is not just an idle word: this book has an appendix that gives the names and addresses of the major trailer manufacturers to contact for literature. In all, the Scheves have given horse owners everything they need to make an informed purchasing decision that will benefit themselves and their horses.

Trailer Park Noir Review

Trailer Park Noir
Average Reviews:

I'll always read a new novel by Ray Garton as soon as it comes out and I eagerly await the next by this prolific but also very polished novelist. Trailer Park Noir is full of all the ingredients that make Garton such a pleasure to read--elegant but rich prose, great characterization, scenes so real you can feel the heat and smell the dust on the countertops, plenty of action and a knowledge of the dark side of humanity to compare with Thomas Harris. I found myself immediately involved in this novel, caring what happened to the heroine, rooting against the evil that tries to drown her, feeling like I was right there every step of the way. I tried to read it slowly, but with a Ray Garton novel, that's just impossible. If you're already a fan of Garton, I predict you'll put this novel with his best, and if you've never tried him, "Trailer Park Noir" is a great place to start!
