What a TALL tale, not a shred of truth anywhere. Boot Camp,, please,, we stayed in a very comfortable Hotel with maid service. I have been here well before Cole arrived and am still here with over 1000 combat patrols under my belt, cole has taken stories from several different sources and incorporateed them as if it happened to him. To claim he knew our KIA and the circumstances surrounding their deaths is disgraceful. You were in Kirkuk!! and spent a couple of weeks ON FOB 7. You have dishonored all of us by this pack of lies.

I have many Matchbox reference books. This is the one I would use least of all because it is incomplete, poorly set out, poorly referenced, and overall gives the appearance of something which has been tossed together because it was MB material surplus to Vol 1. In other words, a total waste of buyer's money. So be cautioned people - don't go there.

Diana Review

Diana
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Diana is a poignant story of love and betrayal, loss and redemption.
Diana's summer job at the fair as the sexy fortuneteller 'Virgin Diana' takes an encouraging turn when she gets the opportunity to flaunt her wiles for Joe Peters. Joe is a returning WW II pilot with a bright future as an Air Corps officer. Diana imagines romance, travel, and adventure...
Life in a trailer home, parked in the back pasture of Joe's parents' farm, does not fulfill Diana's dreams. Are infidelity, murder and the bitter realities of survival in post-WW II rural New York State to be Diana's fate? For an entire generation it would seem so, as brother-in-law Tom's romantic intentions are lost on the long-grieving Diana. Her only concern is for her daughter.
But Tom won't give up without a fight--and one final curse from the mysterious Diana.
One unique aspect: the story is narrated by Eloise Roberson, aka Virginia, the deposed fortuneteller for Dick Burton's carnival. Virginia and Diana don't exactly become fast friends but a skeptical respect develops between the two, leading to a lifelong friendship.

Rv Buyers Survival Guide Edition II Review

Rv Buyers Survival Guide Edition II
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My apologies to other reviewers who had negative sentiments concerning this book but I (a 60 year old man) found this book very informative. No, there are no "tricks" and it does present "common sense" principles but it DOES explain in detail the dealer's process in establishing a price and in negotiating the lowest offer that they will probably take below the MSRP. It takes common sense and insider knowledge and organizes them so the average RV buyer can use them to their negotiating advantage. It is certainly better than walking into a dealership unarmed with any clues.
I think some of the complaints concerned the first edition. The second edition is in booklet form. It is a bit high priced for the size and quality of the book but it is NOT high priced when compared to the information the contents give to the reader.
Recently, a friend of mine bought a new Chevy pickup truck. While he was describing the negotiating process, I was thinking to myself that his actions seemed bull-headed and almost rude. But, as this book points out, you are negotiating for YOUR MONEY and not for five or ten dollars but for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
My buddy knew what a fair price was and he not only stuck to his guns but he was willing to walk out of the showroom unless they made a deal that day. Just as described in this book. If you have done your research properly and you KNOW what a fair price is then YOU MUST stick to your guns and not let sales-people talk you out of any more money with flimsy reasons.
The glossary is helpful and the author did steer me toward a fifth-wheel rather than a travel trailer by letting me know that there is more liveable space in the fifth-wheel for a given length. The trailer has a 3' hitching point in front. Also, the combined length of the truck and fifth-wheel will be shorter than with a truck and trailer because of the way the fifth-wheel hitches up in the bed of the truck rather than on the rear bumper area. That allows for easier maneuvering.
There were some very helpful guides about what to compare when shopping for a rig, too. They covered all the options such as bed size, holding tank size, hot water heater size, chassis, sidewall construction etc, etc.
But, the "meat" of the book was how to take all the information that you have gathered and figure out a "fair" price. Then, how to take that information and use it when you go to the dealer. Priceless. He explains what the MSRP is, how it is calculated and, most importantly, why it exists.
Remember, if the MSRP is a 40 % markup from the invoice price, you don't take 40 % off of the MSRP to get the invoice price. It would be a 28 % markdown from the MSRP to get the invoice price. Math is funny isn't it? Practice with your calculators.

Racing While Black: How an African-American Stock Car Team Made Its Mark on NASCAR

The "real" story about NASCAR is very enlightening. I have looked forward to having a real "underdog" to root for in NASCAR for so long. This is a very clear and in-depth reason there will no-doubt never be one. When I read about Wendell Scott a few years ago, I started watching a few of the events, "knowing" someone with the ability to compete on this level would rise through the ranks and get my heart thumping. Racing While Black lets me know, it's no going to happend in NASCAR, so no longer am I even interested in looking at it. I try to stay away from the various sponsors, in that I now know they really don't appreciate it anyway.
At least NHRA and Formula One Racing warrants attention. Maybe, just maybe, there will be another champion that looks like me. Lewis Hamilton did well and I look forward to seeeing him drive here in the States.

Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog Review

Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Wow. What a book." These are the words that I breathed out when I reached the end of Merle's Door.
Ted Kerasote is to writers what Mozart is to composers. His writing is that good. If he were to write about how the grass grew in his yard over summer, I have no doubt it would be a page-turner.
But that's not the story he wrote. This story is so much more. This unforgettable story begins when a big golden dog emerges from the dark to introduce himself to a small group of people camping in the desert. One of those people was Ted Kerasote, and the dog went home with him. As the story unfolds, we are taken on an amazing journey that goes well beyond "a boy and his dog."
Good relationships are built on mutual respect, and this relationship was better than most. This book is the story of that relationship. These two were the best of friends, and this account of their life together shows how each grew and learned from the other. Love, patience, and understanding are evident throughout the book.
At times, this book is humorous, and at other times it's instructive. But always, it's interesting. One of the lessons Merle taught Ted was that great things can happen if humans will change their behavior instead of always trying to change the behavior of their dogs. The prevailing wisdom is that dogs must be trained and molded a certain way, and treated as though they have no independent powers of judgment. Merle proved this isn't so wise.
The problem is that people don't let their dogs grow up. They make the dog into a perpetual child, and then are surprised when anxiety surfaces in the form of behavior problems. But how would you feel if you always had someone telling you what to do, and not letting you make any decisions on your own? This treatment, while often well-intended, disables a person. It disables dogs as well.
Ted suggests loving in a different way, one that provides more personal freedom and is less about controlling the dog. He says, "His (Merle's) lessons weren't about training, but about partnership. They were never about method; they were about attitude."
The partnership between these two took them on a far different path from one they would have taken if, for example, Ted had decided to make a bird dog out of Merle. Rather than make Merle into something to fit a desire of his own, Ted allowed Merle to be himself. And in so doing, Ted would eventually find his own deep needs met in ways that he could not have predicted. This made for a story worth telling and one definitely worth reading.
In addition to providing us with a wonderful story masterfully written, this book presents an impressive amount of science and technical information on a range of subjects. The list of sources runs 15 pages (in small print, at that). Yet, none of this seems out of place. Whether it's a quote from a biologist, an explanation of cognitive maps, or a summary of experiments with dolphins and mirrors, it's all good and it all fits. The wolf research is especially interesting. For anyone wishing to look up those facts after finishing the story, the extensive index will prove helpful.
This book has 18 chapters spanning 364 pages. Not a single one was wasted.

When readers think of the destructive nature of tornadoes, they often think of Kansas. The Sunflower State has certainly earned the nickname, "The Cyclone State," on and off since territorial times. The movie, the Wizard of Oz, has not helped the state's image of wild weather in the heart of tornado alley and the subsequent widespread death and destruction. Camping New Mexico Review

Due to the paucity of detailed New Mexico camping guides, this book became a part of our library. After two awful, even frightening experiences at campgrounds, we have considered tracking down the author to register a complaint. We doubt that she has actually visited these campgrounds herself or the decriptions would be at least more accurate. And possibly some sites would be completely eliminated. It is unfortuante that there are not more publications to choose from on this topic. If there were, I am positive that this one would go quickly out of print.

The "Riviera Nayarit" is the planned regional tourism development zone extending north from Puerto Vallarta into the next State, Nayarit. The economic crisis has slowed the development and a lot of the coast is still "untouched" and frequented by Mexicans and surfers/campers from up North. As such, there is so little of note to write about and I don't know how such limited information warrants an entire publication.

Chasing the Demons Review

Chasing the Demons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Instead of being so amiable and demure on our first date, I should have taken a gun with me and shot him." Now there's a hook that pulls you in. The author is writing about her future husband.
"Susan married Frank Perez and began twenty years of chaos and uncertainty with the unstable man. After two children, a nasty divorce and reconciliation, she agrees to move to Arizona to find peace in desert living. She cannot begin to foresee the nightmare they will soon be living."
This is a true story from a lady who's been there. A lady with an excellent command of the language. A lady who can write. A lady with a wonderfully understated style that leaves nothing out but which makes you think instead of preaching to you. Every victim has his or her own story. A story which only he or she can tell. Be grateful that Susan Shelley has shared her story with us.
Susan and Nancy are fraternal twins who were adopted. Nancy dated Frank once and decided he was a bit too domineering for her tastes. But Nancy thought he would be a good match for Susan. The rest is an ugly history. Even from the first chapters, hindsight tells us that the signs were all there. But without the benefit of hindsight, would you have known?
Susan was a good young girl, raised in a strongly Christian home, with a beautiful and naive heart. She just didn't know what to expect of a marriage. She didn't know that such dominance is abnormal.
Frank Joseph Perez's family is from Spain and Puerto Rico. His grandmother was born in the Canary Islands. This does not matter to Susan's domineering mother. As far as she's concerned, they're all Mexican trash. She has plenty of other ammunition in her arsenal besides blatant racism. Frank smokes, and he loves guns and hunting.
Just to get out of that environment, Susan made the tragic mistake of marrying Frank. They changed the planned June wedding to a Las Vegas elopement on New Years Day, 1968. Frank tells of his first wife, who his father forced him to marry because he got her pregnant. They were both teenagers, too young, and it didn't work out. Frank blames his father, not himself, for that mess. Remember what I said about hindsight?
Part of what makes this book so special is that it's about life. It's not a simple story of a good woman and a bad man. He, too, is a victim, and the reader feels his pain. I know this was hard for the author to write. It's the first book in a three-part series. It works quite well as a stand-alone novel, and it also makes me anxious to read the next book.
Don't start reading it unless you have time to finish it. Not before bed, not on the bus to work. You won't be able to stop yourself from turning the pages.

The Amargosa Blues Review

The Amargosa Blues
Average Reviews:

The little community of Amargosa Spring doesn't have much to interest teenagers. Michael Foster is one of its small town teens with time on his hands. When he learns about an unusual pistol (a 'Buntline Special') his boss keeps in a desk drawer the boy's curiosity gets the better of him and he 'borrows' the pistol to see what it would be like to shoot it off. Unfortunately this results in the accidental killing of a man and an investigation by Nye County Sheriff Mel Embry. What follows is a deftly written novel by Marshal Taylor as the investigation proceeds and things get progressively complicated for young Michael! Original and engaging from beginning to end, "The Amargosa Blues" is highly recommended for personal reading lists and community library fiction collections.

I liked this book, it was exciting and a little confusing at times. To the reader who said that you can't buy a cheap horse and win the spiral or the Derby, Let Me Remind you. Kentucky Derby winner Real Quiet only sold for 17,000 as a yearling. I applaud the authors efforts in trying to portray a good book writing about a horse in the kentucky derby wither it was realistic or not sometimes gives people a chance to dream and hope to maybe someday have a chance to dream thier own dream about a special horse! Julie's Gift: Memories of London Review

Julie's Gift: Memories of London
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just read 'Julie's Gift' written by Kevin Kirsch, a husband who is not a feelings sharer, but through this novella lets us all know (including his wife) that he does have deep feelings. It is a nice light read that may make you look at your unromantic partner a bit differently since it reminds you that just because feelings are not shared doesn't mean they're not felt. The plot is not riveting and you won't find a car chase, but that's the best part. It revolves around a couple's anniversary trip to London, England. The husband admits his idea of a trip is from the couch to the fridge, but goes out of love for his wife. It unfolds from there. The coolest thing about this book is that it was penned in secret by the husband and presented to her as a Valentine's surprise! Julie's Gift has great sample itineraries (how they actually spent their days in London) as well as the author's Top Ten London Travel Tips for the Guys (funny and useful list).
Not everyone is romantic or able to share feelings aloud, and many of those people are men. This book is a thoughtful and dare I say passionate shout to his wife to tell her that even when he doesn't say so, he is happy and lucky to be with her.
